I have had many requests for a Rose soap.  I have Geranium Rose that I blend with many other EO's for my Bug Repelling bar.  If I were to make a batch of "Rose Soap" what else would blend well with the Geranium for a nice bar?  Can it go alone? Any tips for a nice, floral, feminine EO scent?

thanks in advance

My first bottle of Rose Geranium EO just came in, and I LOVE the
scent!  I was planning on making a rose soap, using my madder root to create a lovely pink soap.  I was planning on using this EO alone, as I love the scent so much I don't want any other scent taking away from it.  But maybe others who have used this with other scents can give more info. on blending.  I know some scents do better with a blend, but I'm hoping that NOT the case with this EO!

I did an alkanet infused sunflower w/ geranuim rose eo . I used Steve's geranium. Love the smell. I threw some litsea in there. To me everything either needs litsea or ecalyptus . Warning the geranium rose is one scent that "sticks". It accelerated trace. I did a pink on pink -deep pink by tossing in madder root and lighter pink swirl with just the alkanet sunflower. Great scent but a little goes a long way. Think I may cut up a few bars if the scent doesn't fade and add them to a white unscented base.

I do rose soap. I have used the rose FO from Jedwards.
Colored with a little french red clay, rose fo was mixed with a little geranium rose (theperfumery.com) and hawaiian plumeria (NDA). I do not remember off hand how much of each but I can look it up. Trace is fast, so work quickly. Better yet, mix the fo/eos with some of the oils and let stand; if you add starch, then add that too and it should slow down a little.
I just did this with Gardenia(WSP) the other day and I was able to work with it nicely, no ricing, smooth texture, and I did not use any water discount.

I blend rose geranium with rosewood and a little palmarosa.  I add some ground rosehips for colour and texture and sprinkle rosebuds and petals on top.  It is one of my favourites and sells very well.

Squeakyclean - your geranium rose mix sounds great. I love the palmarosa too and I have some rosehip just waiting for the right inspiration. This is going in the soap pot this weekend !

Martha, or anyone else that can answer.....So if you were using this EO alone, what ratio would you suggest?  IF you say a little goes a long way, would you recommend, say .5oz ppo?

I used 0.5oz ppo and it holds very well, it is a good seller.
Just remember it will be fast trace. Mix it with some of your oils just before starting your recipe, let it stand there until the very last moment when its time comes. I did that with gardenia and it worked wonderful, water was 38% though.

thank you,

I too am inspired to use my rosebuds that have sadly been sitting around for um, months.  I wonder, though, I'd have to add them in after I pour? or at least after trace? Will the gel totally fry them?  Even if I put the mold outside and "hope for no gel" I could still ruin the ingredients!?

I have this wonderful tea from Teavana called Lavender Dreams and there are a few of the exact same rosebuds in there.  When I steep my tea the roses get blanched! they turn white and look mushy, yuck!  What would be the point of adding THAT to my delicate, feminine soap?  Where do you buy rose petals? I just happened upon these buds in the bulk aisle at a health food store.

I would decorate the top of the soap with rose buds after it is poured in the mold. You may have to arrange them in such way so they will not be cut when that time comes. I will definitely not incorporate them in the mix. Just my thought on this.

I am inspired to do a rose soap now. I have a huge bottle of rose geranium EO waiting and a giant bag of pink rosebuds from Mountain Rose Herbs. Mother's day is coming up and rose-scented soap seems just the ticket for all the women I love. thanks for all the good ideas!

p.s. I find that all the herbs ordered from Mountain Rose Herbs are of the highest quality. the dried rose buds from them are in perfect condition.

Martha- can't wait to hear how you like this blend!  I LOVE it!!  I use nearly equal amounts of rosewood and rose geranium (or sometimes slightly more rose geranium) and about half as much palmarosa.  More palmarosa makes it more 'tea-like'.  So about 2:2:1.  The ground rosehips give a pinkish-tan, speckled hue and the rosebuds & petals I add on top so they retain most of their colour.  Let us know how it turns out.   Grin
