Hi!
I've been asked to make a sulfur & salicylic acid soap for oily & acne prone skin.

Does anyone have a recipe that they've tried?

Please advise.

Thanks and make it a great day!

Hi Opulence,
I suggest white willow bark as a great natural source of salicylic acid.  I get it at NDA.  I've never soaped with sulfur, but I hear you can pick it up at some pharmacies.  I bet with these ingredients, some green or chamomile tea, French clay, burdock root, acne-fighting EOs (maybe tea tree, lavender & lemon?), and some neem, hazelnut, cherry kernel, castor & grapeseed oils along with your hard oils, you'd get a killer acne bar.  Some activated charcoal powder in there might be good too.

Thanks for the info.  I heard Rosewood EO is great for acne, too.  I just ordered some. Once I get it I plan to use it, Raw goat milk along with some of the carrier oils suggested; maybe oatmeal or some other gentle exfoliant.  Depending on the strength of the Rosewood, I may have to use a tree tree or some other stronger EO to help cover the odor of the sulfur.

I actually have white willow bark and could have used it . . . but I already purchased the salicylic acid, too.  I guess I have to hurry up and finish creating the list of ingredients and their benefits Roll Eyes

I was hoping to find a tried & true recipe on-line but couldn't. So I'll have to sit and really think about this recipe.  There are many natural ingredients that control acne, oily skin, soothe outbreaks, and help with blemishes.  You've mentioned some, then there are honey, oatmeal, jojoba, and a host of others.  I love making a nature-filled batch and I want this to be a great one, too; but I don't want to put too many things in it. Since just about every ingredient used will help with acne & oily skin, I really want to make sure I use just the right amounts of sulfur and salicylic acid . . . which I want to highlight since those with acne & oily skin will identify as ingredients good for their skin!

I want this batch to go under the heading of soaps that, "work" or "do something"!

All suggestions are welcome!

My acne soap does work. It has nettle powder, tea tree and lemongrass as EOs. I plan to add sulfur, 3%, into my next batch. There is no need for anything else. In addition, I made a roll on mixture with beeswax, olive oil, jojoba oil, wheat germ oil, grapeseed oil, neem oil, tea tree eo , dill eo and pomegranate 1 drop per vial, for nice, sweet smell. This is to apply it on the troubled spots, after washing with my soap.

Thanks Velvet!  Your Acne Serum sounds great . . . please let us know how it works.

Most of the information I read on Sulfur Soap suggested use of 10% sulfur and 3% Salicylic Acid (which works with the sulfur in helping to fight acne).  I'm making this soap for my 15 year old neice who has moderate acne & oily skin.  For my first batch I will cut the recommended %s to half and use 5% sulfur and 1.5% salicylic acid.

I'm a little nervous and excited about making this soap.  I want it to work on mild to moderate acne but I do not want it to be over drying or too strong.

Thanks again.

I took pictures of my son's acne. First picture is day one, second is day two and third is day four.
I applied it just once a day. When applied two or three times a day, it will work even faster, but somebody has to remind him!!!

day one

day two

day four

I might suggest a bit of caution here - I have never made it but I was with a friend while she was making it.  In the powder form it really didn't have a smell.  Once it hit liquids OMG........her house smelled for WEEKS.  Maybe you have a workshop that you make your soap in - I make it in my kitchen so this soap (which I would like to make) isn't possible here.

i made the sulfur soap in the (well ventilated) kitchen.  It did smell pretty awful at first then the smell faded.  I used Rosewood & Tree Tree EOs; I am now beginning to smell the EO through the sulfur.

Coconut Milk , avocado oil or grapeseed oil ~ they dont clog pores ~ castor oil ,palm kernel flakes , activated charcoal,  rosemary EO and tea tree oil makes a really good  acne soap.
